Suggested Packing List

All the items below are 'suggested' items to bring to the Tail of the Dragon meet; certainly you can come without purchasing or packing them all. We've found it helpful to assemble such a list for past meets so we ensure important stuff isn't left behind when we drive up to the Dragon.

Pre-Dragon Meet
If you are near a scheduled service / maintenance, we recommend getting it done before you go. Our cars are not likely to break down, but it certainly won't hurt, especially if you are overdue.

In-car items
This stuff you'll need to find the meet, be safe and communicate with others during the meet.

  • Maps (state/local map and printed route maps from this website)
  • Printed agenda for meet so you know where to meet everyone
  • Sunglasses
  • Radar detector
  • 2-way FRS/GMRS radios (Motorola, Cobra, etc): these were invaluable at our last meet/road trip; you'll spend more on your cell phone bill than an inexpensive set
  • Headset or hands free kit for 2-way radio
  • Extra batteries for 2-way radio
  • Proof of auto insurance, auto registration
  • Cell phone
  • Driving hat/cap/visor
  • Fully loaded CD cartridge with good driving music or audio books

Show off your Lexus
Of course you'll want your car to look good when you meet up with everyone and sharp in videos & pictures from the meet.

  • Windshield cleaner for bug removal
  • Quarters for the local coin-operated car wash
  • Car cover
  • Minor detailing items: Short sample list below:
    • Small bucket
    • Car duster
    • Quick Detail spray
    • Towels, shammy, or micro fiber drying cloths
    • Tire cleaner

Capture the Moment
There will be many "Kodak" moments on our trip with beautiful mountain scenery and great looking cars.  If you're so inclined, brink some stuff to capture it.

  • Digital Camera
    • Spare batteries
    • Memory sticks/compact flash
    • Cable to unload pictures
    • Charger
  • Film camera
    • Extra film
    • Lenses
    • Lens cleaner
  • Camcorder
    • Battery charger
    • Extra tape or compact flash
    • Headrest mount for camcorder
  • Tripod, monopod or mini-tripod

Hang Out
We'll have lots of on-road time during the weekend, but will also have plenty of time to be with other Lexus enthusiasts both looking at cars and just hanging out.  Some of these items may be useful:

  • Cooler for cold 'drinks' and snacks in your room or car.  Note some rooms will have a small dorm-size fridge
  • Folding camp chair
  • Food/snacks/energy drinks for the drive.  Many will probably make a quick trip to the grocery store once we arrive to stock up rather than pack it in.
  • Pack all adult beverages you plan to consume, if you are so inclined.  ROBBINSVILLE IS A DRY COUNTY, and it's 30 minutes to the closest town with ABC carryout available.
  • Specialty magazines to share with others (Hyper Rev, VIP, etc)
  • Cards / Poker Chips

Personal Items
Here's a short list of personal items you might want to bring:

  • Cash / Credit Cards
  • Laptop to unload digital pictures
  • Prizes from sponsors if you have obtained them
  • Medical insurance card in case of accident
  • Clothes - on your own here, but suggest bringing a light jacket or long pants for evening if you get cold - the mountains can sometimes get chilly.  I plan on shorts during the day.  We don't plan to go anywhere that will require beyond 'tourist casual' dress
  • Alarm clock (should be able to use the one in your hotel room or a wake up call)
  • Swim trunks for the pool if you're inclined
  • Sunscreen if needed
  • Hangover or allergy remedies
  • Umbrella if needed
